Sarfeld’s inspiration comes from the world around her. Reining in her intuitive curiosity, each canvas functions as a page of her personal journal. Sarfeld borrows more traditional aspects from her training at OCAD University and the more intuitive expression of her own abstract style. Working in Acrylic, Sarfeld looks to create movement while maintaining a delicate balance of space and depth of her work. Using unconventional tools to push and pull the picture plane she focuses on the act of adding and taking away. These layers create depth, while the stark color blocks create moments of rest. Sarfeld finds a direct correlation to the speed of which she paints, and the mark making tools she uses.
